I love finding out what recipes we will be trying for Tuesdays with Dorie. Blueberry Nectarine Pie was one of our assignments for the month of July.
I was really excited for the opportunity to bake this pie. One reason for my excitement is that blueberries are a favorite fruit in our house.
The other reason was an opportunity to perfect my pie crust making skills.
I have always had a great fear of making pie crust. My previous attempts were thick, pasty or so thin they cracked.
The last time I made a decent pie crust was about 12 years ago at Thanksgiving. My father was recovering from a massive stroke and our family flew in from various cities to spend time with him and my Mom.
My Dad wanted pumpkin pie with a crust that was made with his Mother’s recipe. I elected to make the pie and after a glass (or two) of wine, I felt confident enough to try making the crust. It was fantastic.
It never came out the same way again.
Until this recipe!
The filling was great, sweet with a little tart from the nectarines.
But the crust – it was perfection. Just thick enough. Flaky. And melt in your mouth.
I will make pie crust again! I will not purchase boxed crusts! I will never toss a frozen crust in my shopping cart again!
The entire family loved the pie and had a piece after Sunday supper and again the next day! The last couple of slices will go in the freezer, although I am sure they will not stay there long!
