Thank you for Viva Vantage and Walmart for sponsoring this post and helping me clean up my messes!
I have always been a person who likes things in order. I keep a daily list of things to do for every day and I even have certain days of the week that I perform different chores. Monday and Friday are vacuuming days. Tuesday is the day I clean bathrooms. Thursday is for dusting. Wednesday is my day for extra chores. By extra, I mean things like wiping down baseboards, dusting the ceiling fans.
One of the chores in my house that doesn’t get done often is cleaning and organizing the refrigerator! I am not sure why, but it has always been something I have hated to do! Like many of you, I have found a bowl of unidentified green glop in the back of the refrigerator a time or two!
No longer! I have turned a new leaf (at least for now) and will be keeping my refrigerator clean and organized. I know I will be saving money and making my food last longer. Making sure that I clean and organize the refrigerator before I plan my menu and go grocery shopping will help me know what I am out of.
First, I removed all of the items from the refrigerator – grabbed some Viva ® Vantage paper towels that I picked up at Walmart and began to scrub! I like to use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the refrigerator. I don’t want any chemicals touching or smelling up my food. My sure you get in those little, hard to reach spaces.
Then I lined the vegetable crisper with more Viva® Vantage paper towels. I will replace these towels on a weekly basis (or sooner if they get wet) The paper towels will wick the moisture away from my vegetables and fruit and keep them fresh longer.
Here is a quick tip: Wrap your unwashed celery in foil. It will keep about two weeks!
I keep a container of fresh veggies that are ready to eat. We typically eat around 7 p.m., so we often want a light snack late in the afternoon. Keeping a box of easy to grab veggies is a great way to make sure my family is eating healthy. Line the bottom of the veggie container with a single layer of Viva® Vantage paper towels. Change it every week or more often if it gets wet. I make sure this container sits on the top shelf so it is eye level.
No more standing in front of the door trying to figure out what to snack on!
Fruit is also kept in an individual container. I want to make sure the fruit is ready to eat and as fresh as possible.
The meat and cheese drawer and the shelves on the door get the same treatment as the crisper drawers.
Scrub them with soap and water using a strong paper towel like Viva® Vantage. Then toss your paper towel in the trash – who doesn’t love easy clean up?
One last tip before you go. We all know that it is the safest to defrost your meats in the refrigerator. In order to keep the refrigerator from getting blood or other liquids in it, I lay a Viva® Vantage Paper Towel in the bottom of a plastic container, lay my meat in it and then place the whole thing in the refrigerator. Any blood that seeps out of the package will be picked up by the paper towels and the container can be washed in the dishwasher! No mess, no contamination of other food!
There you have it! A nice, clean and organized refrigerator! How do you keep your refrigerator organized? I would love to hear your tips!
