Healthy back to school lunch box ideas are beginning to be seen on blogs and Pinterest. I know it is only the end of July, but many little ones will be heading back to school in a couple of weeks. Here in Central VA, children go back in early September. If I told you when I used to go back to school, I would age myself!
Not too long ago I wrote an article about a great breakfast sandwich that would be perfect for a back to school breakfast. You can easily make many of the sandwiches, freeze them, pop them in the microwave for a minute or so and walk out the door, breakfast in hand. I shared some other great combinations for healthy breakfasts too. It is important to make sure our young ones (and adults) eat a nutritious meal in the morning.
Some of us (I for one) didn’t realize that a good lunch is just as important as a good breakfast. Most of my life I have heard the mantra of feeding your children a healthy meal in the morning for a great school day.
Lunch meals have many of the same benefits as breakfast. Learning can deplete the brain’s supply of glucose, so it is important to refuel the glucose supplies with a healthy lunch. It is important to add whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean sources of protein. A healthy lunch can give children the energy they need to stay focused and pay attention in class.
