Great days start with protein. This is a mantra that Big has had since I have known her. Big has competed in Strongwoman competitions and had made being in the gym a part of her every day. She understands the importance of getting the right amount of protein for breakfast.
Getting enough protein in the morning helps you feel energized and focused for longer. We all remember out Mother telling us to have a great breakfast to start the day. Many times though, we grab something to eat and run out of the door. We then wonder why we are hungry before lunch and why we just can’t seem to concentrate on the task at hand.
Many experts are now recommending that we get between 25 – 30 grams of protein before noon. This may sound hard to do, but it is really easy. One way to add 8 grams of protein to your breakfast or morning snack is to pair an 8 ounce glass of milk with your favorite foods.
Big always has a glass of milk with breakfast and will often have another glass of milk with a mid-morning snack consisting of a piece of fruit. Often times, for her mid-morning snack she will have a glass of chocolate milk.
If you are wondering what to have for breakfast, try this easy 3 egg Omelet – it is one of Big’s favorites.
- 1 whole egg
- 2 egg whites
- 1 Tbl. grated cheese (use any types)
- 1 Tbl. chopped scallions
- Salt and pepper to taste
Scramble the eggs with the salt and pepper. Place in a non-stick frying pan. When the eggs are almost cooked, place the cheese and scallions on them and fold the egg. Cook for 1 or two more minutes, until the eggs are done.
This Omelet is so easy to prepare and when it is combined with an 8 ounce glass of milk, and a piece of fruit, you have met your recommended amount of protein for the morning.
Great days start with protein and getting that amount is easy.
Here are some other ideas for a high protein meal:
- 2 slices of whole wheat toast, 4 tbs Peanut Butter, glass of milk
- Egg burrito with cheese, sour cream, glass of milk
- Plain greek yogurt, almonds, glass of milk
