As bloggers, we want you to always see pretty. We share our best photos, our best recipes, the best photos of our family doing something that you always wanted your family to do. Of course you know, we have stress. Many stresses. Failed recipes. Kids having tantrums. Husbands telling us we spend to much time on the computer! These can all be stressful situations.
Many years ago, I lived with an abusive alcoholic. I lived with it because I believed there was no way out. I didn’t think anyone else would want me. Then I had my daughter. That was a game changer. I new I had to leave to protect her.
It was a hard change, but I held firm. I made new friends. I enrolled in college. I enrolled in Massage Therapy School. I began to do things for myself and my daughter. I began to believe in myself for my daughter.
While in massage school, I learned about muscles, bones, contraindications to massage and more. One of the great things that I learned was how to manage my stress.
Here are a few easy and natural ways I handle stress:
Laugh. Studies show that laughter really can be the best medicine around.
Get exercise. I am not a gym rat, but I do make sure I walk my puppy every morning. I take the time to look at the flowers and trees and make sure I wave at all the neighbors (even if they don’t wave back).
Pay it forward. I learned that giving without wanting back can relieve stress. It can be as simple as opening the door for someone, getting some thing off the shelf for someone or even listening to a sales person on the phone (they have to work too don’t they).
Get rest. I know this seems like a no-brainer. Being tired can cause stress in itself. You want to feel rested and refreshed at the beginning of every day.
Take at least 5 minutes every day for yourself. Find a place that is quiet, close your eyes and breathe. Unplug and forget about all the things that need to be done. Make yourself a cup of tea, stroke one of your pets, and just relax.
While in massage therapy school, I learned about Bach RESCUE Remedy.
