It looks like the Federal Government will be cutting Big’s hours and therefore pay.
This means we need to learn to live on about $300.00 less per month. That may not seem like a lot of money to some, but it is to us. It equates to our heating bill and our phone bill put together. Or it could be money taken from an already tight grocery budget.
I don’t want to complain or sound like a baby, because of a pay cut. I know there are so many more in the world that have it worse than we will.
What this cut in pay has made me think about is budgeting, saving money, being more thrifty. Because of this, I am going to begin a new series on Fridays.
The series will be about living life with less money. I know there are a lot of blogs that are dedicated to budgeting, thrifting, etc., so I will not really try to compete with them. I just thought that as friends we could share some ways to live life to the fullest on less.
Something I have always wanted to do is to compare the cost of homemade to store bought. I know that making bread at home is less expensive (and better for you), but how less expensive is it? I wonder if it is cheaper to make our own extracts for baking? There are many questions like that and I hope to find the answers and share them with all of you, my friends.
I will also share some great deals that are out there on the Internet. Things like free kindle books, great sales, etc. My blog will not become a coupon clipping crazy place, I promise. What I hope it will become is a place to sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and share some interesting information.
I hope you will join me!
I am thinking of having a link option for this series. Not necessarily a party, but a way to share things with friends. What do you think?

Sounds good to me….
Marissa, Thanks for stopping by and thanks for thinking it sounds good. I will give it a try! Hope to see you again real soon!
Cynthia this sounds interesting. We can all do some to tighten our belts. I for one could use all the lessons I can find. It seems if we have an extra dollar or two we spend it not necessarily on things we need but things we want. I was a person that never had to budget until after I got married and it is hard to change your lifestyle after doing things the same way for 20 some years.
Thank you for stopping by Marlys. I used to budget all of the time, then as we got older things got a little easier financially. Now we will go back to budgeting! I have to remember all of my old tricks!
Oh no! That’s a real bummer about Big’s job. 75 bucks a week less is a huge drop. How can they just decide to cut a full time employees wages like that?
Looking forward to seeing your tips though. Im pretty sure I can learn something (and maybe even contribute some ideas of my own !)
I know that any change is a big one and at least you are looking at doing something proactively instead of waiting until you are in debt as many people do. I decided two years ago that I was going to stay home with my little one and I quit my job. I was really stressed out but my husband had the secure government job with a retirement (of course, no raises because of the pay freezes). With a little work, I have figured out how to live on a much smaller income. With a little creativity (and a lot less eating out), we figured out to live within our means. Some months are a little tough but I really wouldn’t have it any other way now
I hope that you figure out how to do it.
Cynthia,
I’m sitting here with my cup of coffee reading your blog and I LOVE this Friday feature you have started! Everyone could learn to live on a little less, even if it’s not because of pay cuts. I’ve been feeling more and more like I waste so much and really want to try and be more thoughtful of what I use and spend. One of the things I have just started doing lately is using more Ziploc containers or “Tupperware” type containers in the fridge. I have always used a ton of Ziploc bags for storage and I noticed lately we throw away so many everyday and it’s just like throwing our money right into the trash!
Keep up the great work and advise
xoxo,
Michelle
