I am not a big fan of eating out. I feel that I could cook a meal that is equal to, or better than most of what you find in local restaurants.
I make a few exceptions to the rule and sometimes I am very glad I did.
My family and I went to The Bavarian Chef, in Fredericksburg, VA. The restaurant is located next to the train station, in the old ticket office. It is wonderfully decorated, and you feel like to you have stepped into a Gasthaus in Germany!
Our trip to The Bavarian Chef was to celebrate my Father’s birthday. He passed nine years ago, but we have celebrated his life every year, by eating out and sharing a glass or wine or two in his name.
Our dinner was wonderful, our waiter was attentive and we had enough food for two days!
Please pardon the fingers and cutlery in the photos – everyone was hungry and didn’t have patience for me to take “good” photos!
My Mother had the Pork Shank with Onion Strips.
I had a wonderful Salmon with tomatoes, artichokes and olives.
Big had the Chicken Cutlet and wild rice.
We got a choice of multiple sides. We chose the glazed carrots, purple cabbage, potato dumplings and creamed corn.
If you are ever in the Fredericksburg, VA area, I would suggest you stop by The Bavarian Chef and give it a try. You will be glad you did!
Oh yeah, let me know you are in town and I will join you!

This all looks SO GOOD! We are 1/4 german and love when our Granny cooks. My brother and his fiance have perfected making pretzels and are even making them as favors for their wedding! They want to open an authentic German Beer Garden Restaurant in our town, I can’t wait until they do!
What a lovely reason to celebrate with a gorgeous meal….I hope my memory inspires my loved ones to do the same
If ever I find myself in Virginia, you’ll be the first to know…haha!
Im wanting to go find and buy some pork shanks right about now.
Can you please write this down as one of the places you’ll take me when I come to visit.
