I brought some beautiful grapes home last week. I thought they looked juicy and sweet. I envisioned myself sitting on a chaise lounge snacking on these lovelies while reading a book (like I have time to read).
Big was envisioning making wine! Why, I am still not sure, she doesn’t even drink wine!
My first bite of the grapes was a bit disappointing. Although they were sweet, the skin was thick and a bit tough. I found a seed or two also!
This meant I needed to rethink the snacking idea. I pondered Big’s wine making wishes. I love a good glass of wine. It just seemed like too much work.
I decided to make Grape Jelly!
I used the recipe right off the Sure Jell box.
There are some great sites and books about canning, so I won’t give you all the recipe details. I would hate for you to get ill because of me.
I was a bit worried about making jelly. I wanted to make sure it was nice and clear and I worried about the straining. There was no need to worry, it was easy peasy!
Big gave this jelly a thumbs up and even said it was better than Smuckers! I was happy to hear that. Big loves grape jelly!
Here are a couple places I visit when looking for canning information. Hope you will stop by and visit them. Canning Homemade, Simply Canning, and Ball Canning.
Tomorrow Big and I will be shucking 36 ears of corn, canning peaches and freezing okra! Sounds like fun, right?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Looks good!
I used to make grape jelly from bottled grape juice, but I can get good grape jelly. I’ve begun to limit myself to less ready flavors like mayhaw (like grape) and crabapple. I love to make jelly. Shucking corn? Not so much. but, we used to shuck tons of it when I was a kid…and my aunt had a very fine hairbrush that she kept in the freezer so no one would use it and we’d use that to brush off the silks. Days gone by. Thanks for the memory. Lane
Thanks for the links to the informational sites, i like to read up on something before trying it. That jelly sure looks delish on the toast. Joined your blog as a follower.
