I am a cheater. There, I said it. It is true.
For the past couple of months all of my cooking has been from scratch. I have not used pre-packaged items at all. I have enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong. I plan on continuing this trend.
Today was a little different. I used a pre-packaged item! I cheated!
I picked up about 20 pickling cucumbers from our Community Supported Agriculture on Wednesday. Pickle making was in my future.
Bread and Butter pickles are my favorite. Dill pickles are the favorite of Big.
I searched recipes and decided I didn’t want to take the time to come up with the perfect brine. So I used Mrs. Wages, Kosher Dill Pickle mix.
It was so easy! I can’t wait for Big to get home and try them.
I guess it goes to prove, “from scratch” is not always the best!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. It is raining here and I plan on watching a movie and snacking on popcorn!

That’s not cheating. That’s great time management.
I agree with the above comment… It is time management. I haven’t made pickles for years and when I saw some pickling cucumbers at the market I was tempted to buy them… but decided against them. I don’t think we eat enough pickles to make it worthwhile. Although they would make great gifts.
Sometimes you need to use some pre-packaged food. It’s worth the time saved.
I have used the pre-packaged mix before to same time also
They actually make pretty good pickles in a pinch!
I call that being a Betty Crocker Cheat, even if it’s not cake mix, and I think it’s perfectly acceptable. I weigh up whether the outcome is going to be worth my time and energy, and if it’s not then I turn to the packet!
We all cheat from time to time
I wanted to also let you know that I nominated you for an award – well 2 actually! You can check it out on my blog, Love Bakes Good Cakes!
